“There would be no happy ending for us. He was too damaged. I was too broken.”

Two years ago, Lorrie’s mother was murdered. But that wasn’t the end of it. Reeling from the tragedy, Lorrie’s father spiraled into alcohol, depression, and finally suicide.

The two most important people in Lorrie’s life are both gone but she’s still alive.

Trying to recover from the tragedy, Lorrie returns to campus, ready to pick up the pieces of her life. All Lorrie wants is to get back to “normal.”

Then she meets Hunter. The man, the legend, “the Hammer.”

Hunter is a cage fighter who takes on every fight like he’s got nothing to lose. His life is a tangled mess of girls, booze, and fist fights. And while it may seem like he’s got a devil-may-care attitude, he’s fighting a private cage-match with a monster he can’t defeat.

Lorrie knows that Hunter is the exact type of guy she should stay away from, especially in her fragile state, but Hunter has other ideas.

As Hunter and Lorrie grow closer together, will they be able to overcome their pain and heal each other? Or will they both end up wrecked?

My Review

Now THAT’S more like it!

After being a little disappointed with the first three books in the Forever series, this fourth one is a very pleasant surprise! Talk about a tearjerker! The last 10% of this book put little tear spots all over my glasses. I was PROJECTILE CRYING, of all things!

These two, the H and h, should NOT be together. They both are so troubled and damaged. Put them together, and you get a disaster-in-the-making.

“Hunter already had some baggage, add my baggage on top of that and it’s be a recipe for pissing off airport security.”

Okay, now about Hunter. He’s a college student, MMA fighter, tatted, HOT and loves kittens. What’s not to like? He has a secret. And he’s keeping it from Lorrie. Not cool. But he’s also a dirty talker, so that kind of makes up for it, right? Right. I don’t normally like that awful c-word, but Hunter knows how to use it to his advantage and get what he wants. See?

“Now lemme lick this sweet c*** of yours, Lorrie.”

And about Lorrie. The poor girl has lost both of her parents to tragedy, and has been working on putting the pieces of her life back together when she meets Hunter. He’s a big-man on campus, and all the nasty girls gossip about him. Sadly, some of the gossip is true, but meeting Lorrie changed him 180, turned him around, and put him on a better path. What will he do, though, if she leaves him? It’s scary how much faith these two put in one another without a real commitment.

I’m looking forward to diving into Forever #5 this evening. There’s a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of this one. Okay, I lied. It’s a cliffhanger that will leave you sobbing, tossing your Kindle out the window, or something along those lines. But you’ll want to read the next book, because it’s the completion of the Hunter/Lorrie portion of the Forever series. I have my fingers crossed it’s as good as this one, since my previous three ratings in this series were 4, 4, and 2.5. Yeah. The beginning of a story being really good does not guarantee you’ll enjoy the end.
