Synopsis

What happens when a security expert tries to protect a feisty chef who has a penchant for pissing off the most dangerous elements of the criminal underworld?

Cue the danger and mayhem.

Nathan Reece is a serial dater. Despite his reputation, women can’t seem to resist the challenge to make him commit. But the problem isn’t Nate’s ability to commit. The problem is he’s already given his heart to the girl who got away—twice.

Sylvie Yoshida.

Years ago, Nate and Sylvie had a steamy no-strings-attached affair that ended when his CIA duties called, and Sylvie’s ambitions to become a chef got in the way. Not willing to give each other up, they agreed to a platonic relationship.

When Nate quit the CIA with plans to claim his woman, he again became a victim of wrong timing. Sylvie had found someone else, and it was looking more and more likely he would remain in the friend zone forever.

However, fate is up to some mischief and has given him his third chance to make her his.

There is that one tiny problem that his lady love has found herself entangled with the Asian Crime Syndicate—a hybrid organization that is a cross between the Yakuza and the Chinese Triad. Will Nate be able to save her? More than one life is at stake, and he must tread carefully between secrets and truth and his duty to country and the woman he loves.

* Strong sexual content and language. Standalone. No cliffhanger. Second-chance, friends to lovers romance.

My Review

Not just a friends-to-lovers romance, these friends are getting a second chance!

A little bit biker, a little bit of outlaws, a little bit inside the law, a little nice, and a lot of naughty, this book gives my Nathan his own story. Sylvie is unexpected and I really like her. I have terrible recall, so don’t remember if she was in prior books in this series. She is strong, sharp, and very smart. She is perfectly worthy of my favorite character from the Always series.

I’m hoping for a fourth book in the series for two older side characters, and the author knows just who I’m talking about! I don’t want to spoil anything for others. The side characters in this book are written with excellence. The little bird herself has said on Facebook that she will be writing again soon. My fingers are crossed!

About Victoria Paige

I work as a freelance database administrator, and when I’m not geeking out, I write romantic suspense novels. I live in Richmond, Va–less than two hours away from Washington DC–so most of the settings of my books are in the nation’s capital–of course, I’m not averse to creating fictional towns and cities. 😉

When I’m not arguing with the alpha male characters in my head, I love to watch high-octane action movies. I think Jack Bauer is the shit, which is why most of my characters are such badasses bent on saving the world from evil doers.

I love reading adult contemporary, paranormal, urban fantasy, historical, romantic suspense, and a few new adult fiction as well as military non-fiction.
